Naeem Khan Autumn/Winter 2013 whose program promised Modern Opulence, inspired by the illustrations of the 1920’s Erte to the Grandeur of the Byzantine Empire. Very fancy and elegant.

Altogether Khan presented 47 outstanding looks that brought the audience to their feet for a standing ovation. It was a true collection, with a consistent theme weaved into each piece, with make-up and hair that complimented the pieces and the time. While most of the collection stayed within the black and blue color scheme, a few red and teal pieces stole the show.

Vera Wang Fall 2013 collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York showcased strong, classical sculptural techniques. Her dressmaking skills were strongly evident throughout the collection And though there were plenty of gorgeous, textural fabrics to behold — heavy satin, metallic brocades, fox fur, and chantilly lace — it was a series of pieces made from iridescent sequins and jumbo rose jacquards in ultraviolet, magenta, and tangerine that really stole the show.

Badgely Mischka Fall 2013 collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York was an extravagant showcase of embellished timeless couture. The duo move into more of  darker, delineated and more lucid collection than their Spring line.  There are elegant and luxurious fur capes and cowls, tweeds and plaids and barely there peplum waists in some of the dresses. Their are glimpses of their sumptuous, lavish style in the gold beaded jacket, gold jersey evening gown, black and silver brocade and lace dress and beaded tulle and organza gowns. Truly sophisticated and elegant.

It’s not every day you get the chance to work with one of – in my humble opinion – one of the finest womenswear labels Australia has to offer.

So when they ask you to pick a favourite piece from their collection that speaks volumes about you for whatever reason, naturally you jump at it. Little did I know of course that when they offered me this little gem of an opportunity, they’d name the piece after me and be proud to have done so.

Talk about an honour.

I spent hours in store with White Suede’s designer, Jacqui Demkiw flicking through the collection and hearing about each piece’s inspiration, story and how it came into existence. It was such a great opportunity and something that made choosing my favourite only so much more difficult.

When I did finally settle on a piece, there was no doubting it. It spoke to me not because of how I thought it would look on me or anyone else for that matter, but because it reminded me of my mother and her growing-up in Koroni in the southern most part of mainland Greece.

Coming from a Greek background with parents of very Greek traditions, the Ms. Saks dress made perfect sense.

It’s an asymmetric one shoulder drape dress with contrast in mint blue. Everything about it subtly whispers feint memories of the Greek Islands like Limnos, Koroni and Santorini and their beautifully contrasted whitewashed buildings and houses against the stark contrast of the sterling blue Mediterranean.

There is truly a sense of feeling feminine and free when you’re surrounded by the ocean. So I produced this video to and dedicate it to all women, freedom and the ocean. It’s with pleasure my name and my mother’s Grecian honour sit amongst the White Suede collection and I can’t wait to wear it myself when the sun really starts to shine.

LOUIS VUITTON “Cruising through time”

Matthew Donaldson offers a new perspective on Louis Vuitton’s 2012 cruise collection. Stretching time and capturing each exquisite dance movement at 1000 frames per second.

“It is probably London but it could be New York or Paris. It is probably 2011 but it might just be 1972. We are not sure. It doesn’t really matter.

Naive yet confident, our character moves effortlessly on screen. Clearly not a model she’s a dancer. Her swings, her twists, every single move, every single gesture reveals it. She is feminine, sophisticated and deceptively sassy, with a simple yet deliberate elegance. The textures and colours are changing as the rhythm syncopates with the film, magnifying the fluid silhouette. At times, we find ourselves drawn into patterns, rich colours and details as the fabrics float gracefully in the room, as if time had just stopped for an instant.

The innovative visual approach combined with the dance movements shows how extraordinarily elegant and modern this collection is. Classic but slightly rebellious, timeless beyond its refined 60’s inspiration.”

VANESSA BRUNO’S MIDNIGHT MAGIC

article by Sophie Coleman / February 3rd, 2012 in Fashion  Portable.tv

If the fashion world has a master of surreal, wildly beautiful cinematographic fashion visions, thenVanessa Bruno is it. Enter her new film, Moonlight, which features an exquisite other-wordly feminine being embodied by who else but Kate Bosworth? She travels through various times and landscapes, aided and empowered by a distinct Vanessa Bruno uniform—one where sharply tailored silhouettes meet ladylike, delicate details (and a touch of futuristic embellishment).

Prada takes the retro Americana, auto-erotica vibe up a gear with their Spring 2012 campaign video. Natasha Poly, Meghan Collison, Elise Crombez, Guinevere van Seenus, Ymre Stiekema and Katryn Kruger are cruising at the gas station, the car radio tuned to the collection’s nostalgic garage-inspired style, picking up snippets of Duck and Cover, Tobacco, Sleigh Bells and Ariel Pink. Photographer Steven Meisel has given the models (four wheeled and two legged) the high gloss wax and shine treatment so those jewel tones and pimped-out accessories really sparkle on film.

If only all roadside stops looked this good:
