It’s not every day you get the chance to work with one of – in my humble opinion – one of the finest womenswear labels Australia has to offer.
So when they ask you to pick a favourite piece from their collection that speaks volumes about you for whatever reason, naturally you jump at it. Little did I know of course that when they offered me this little gem of an opportunity, they’d name the piece after me and be proud to have done so.
Talk about an honour.
I spent hours in store with White Suede’s designer, Jacqui Demkiw flicking through the collection and hearing about each piece’s inspiration, story and how it came into existence. It was such a great opportunity and something that made choosing my favourite only so much more difficult.
When I did finally settle on a piece, there was no doubting it. It spoke to me not because of how I thought it would look on me or anyone else for that matter, but because it reminded me of my mother and her growing-up in Koroni in the southern most part of mainland Greece.
Coming from a Greek background with parents of very Greek traditions, the Ms. Saks dress made perfect sense.
It’s an asymmetric one shoulder drape dress with contrast in mint blue. Everything about it subtly whispers feint memories of the Greek Islands like Limnos, Koroni and Santorini and their beautifully contrasted whitewashed buildings and houses against the stark contrast of the sterling blue Mediterranean.
There is truly a sense of feeling feminine and free when you’re surrounded by the ocean. So I produced this video to and dedicate it to all women, freedom and the ocean. It’s with pleasure my name and my mother’s Grecian honour sit amongst the White Suede collection and I can’t wait to wear it myself when the sun really starts to shine.
